Europe boasts many great sites and places to explore and is well known for its range of architecture. Wandering around any European capital will ensure that you get to see a vast range of European churches and castles among other sites, and these are always guaranteed to impress for their often huge scale and intricate detail.

Whether you’re interested in religion or not, it’s hard not to be impressed by the incredible architecture of some European cathedrals and basilicas and these make up some of the most fantastic European churches and castles to explore. One of the most amazing examples of European churches and castles is St Peter’s Basilica which is huge and intricately designed and sculpted. At the same time you can go to the top of the Basilica and get views over the top of all of Rome (and probably even beyond). Then on top of that you have the Vatican City around it with its statues and fountains and the Vatican museum which is home to some incredible artwork.

On a similar vein another amazing church and another of the more well known European churches and castles is Notre Dame, again steeped in history and the setting for the story of the Hunchback of Notre Dame, it too will make you feel small with its high ceiling and giant statues. Again you can climb to the top and something else that makes this one off the more interesting European churches and castles is the fact that technically it’s located on an island.

These huge churches give you a great sense of awe and of what’s possible if lots of people work together – even back before we had modern building tools. Some of the larger castles have this same effect though, particularly Wawel Castle in Krakow Poland, which is said to be one of the ‘energy centres of the Earth’ and which has a vast forecourt that again makes you feel tiny in comparison. To fit the whole castle into a picture you have to stand a long way back indeed.

There are smaller European churches and castles to explore however, and most European towns and cities have a cathedral to look around whether you’re in Guildford or Frankfurt. Likewise with castles, and Corfe castle in Swanage, Dorset is filled with interesting history and facts and is one of the cheaper European churches and castles to look around. As well as Western European Churches and Castles you can also find a lot of temples and buildings for other purposes and religions that are equally and sometimes more-so impressive. On your trip to Europe then don’t forget to look around the local European churches and castles!
