Curious as to who the top three European models are? First, some background on European models and Europe.
Most every developed country has their few supermodels that they are able to name as a claim to fame. But no one country or continent can claim what Europe can, that they have produced more top fashion models than anywhere else in the world. As the birthplace of fashion modeling, it is no surprise that most of the world renowned beauties come from Europe. Although most European models work in the United States or for projects funded by American companies, the top three supermodels were all born and raised in Europe.
#1 European Models – Heidi Klum
Heidi Klum was born and raised in the small German town of Bergisch Gladbach by her cosmetic company executive father Günter and her hairdressing mother Erna. Born on June 1, 1973 Heidi’s first modeling experience was winning the Model 92 competition where she beat 25,000 European models and earned herself a $300,000 modeling contract. Heidi has since expanded her career to include acting, fashion designing, developing perfume lines and hosting the popular Germany’s Next Top Model reality show.
#2 European Models – Claudia Schiffer
Appearing in on the cover of more than 500 magazines, Claudia Schiffer is one of the worlds most popular and successful European models. Born on August 25, 1970 in Rheinburg, North-Rhine Westphalia, West Germany Claudia aspired to work at her father’s law firm as a lawyer, while she was growing up.
At seventeen years old though, her dreams of becoming a lawyer flew out the door when she met Michel Levaton in a Düsseldorf night club. Michel, the boss of Metropolitan Model Agency signed Claudia immediately after seeing her. Claudia has since earned supermodel status as well as becoming a world renowned actress.
#3 European Models – Kate Moss
Most recently Kate Moss has been covered by the media for her marriage to actor Tom Cruise and the births of their two children. Kate had earned her own fame long before meeting Tom though. Born in Addiscombe, Croydon, London on January 16, 1974 Moss earned the position as 2nd Top Earning Supermodel by Forbes Magazine for earning over $9 million in 2007. Kate was discovered early, at the age of 14 by Storm Model Management, when she was passing through the JFK airport on her way home from a vacation in the Bahamas. Her first photo shoot with European models was at the age of 15 and as of 2009 she had been on the cover of more than 300 magazines.
